I've always liked ornament wreaths that I see in other peoples' houses, so when I found out that I could make one myself I knew I had to do it. What you'll need is ornaments (lots!) and in my case a work wreath. In some pins it said to use a work wreath and in some it said to use a foam wreath. I will talk more about these options at the end. Also you will need hot glue and a hot glue gun. I shopped at Hobby Lobby to get my supplies, the only trouble I had was that I couldn't find a foam wreath there. I had two options, so I didn't think it would make too much of a difference to use a work wreathe, so that's what I bought! Also for the ornaments most pictures I had seen had different sizes so I bought a few sizes of ornaments.
Let's get into the steps! The first thing to do is to take off the little silver thing on top of the wreath. It's really easy just hold the loop at the top and pull and it pops right off. Then you want to hot glue the ornaments into the wreath frame, making sure the part that had to hook on it we took off earlier is facing inward and not seen. Also hold the ornaments in place for around 30 seconds to keep everything in place because the hot glue doesn't dry immediately and the ornaments will fall or slide out of place. I want to make a note here that I recommend you use plastic ornaments because the glass ones don't adhere with hot glue they just pop off of the glue and they will shatter if your hot glue is too hot. So once you've done just one row around the whole thing like the seventh picture you want to add on ornaments in random places to make the wreath look fuller. Glue them onto other ornaments, other places of the frame, etc.
Now for the results of the wreath! Well you can decide for yourself how you think it turned out looking at the last picture. I've gotta say I'm not impressed. I thought gluing a few ornaments onto a frame would be a quick simple DIY. This project took me a total of 3 hours. I'm fine with having a craft take time, but if it is going to take time I expect it to be something I'm really proud of and really like. I know I could've made it look prettier if I added more ornaments, but I used more than 50 ornaments and it took me 3 hours. I was bored of gluing and holding for 3 hours, and didn't want to go out to the store to get more ornaments. I'm not sure if it was worth it. I might one day add more ornaments and spend more time on it, but for now this is good. I have to say that I would recommend trying this with a foam wreath. I would have used one if I could've found one. It's a lot easier and faster to stick the ornaments into a foam wreath and use only a little glue to the ones on the outside. So let's rate this DIY!
RATINGS:
Messiness: 8/10 This was messy because of the hot glue. If you've ever used hot glue you know what comes along with it is all of the strings, drips, and burns.
Simplicity: 7/10 This was a very simple concept, there were three steps, just glue ornaments onto a frame. it just took a lot of time.
Fun: 1/10 This was not fun. It was very annoying, I sat there gluing and holding for 3 hours. The ornaments don't adhere and the glue doesn't dry immediately. So if you don't hold your ornaments they will slip off or out of place or fall off.
Overall: 4/10 I'm disappointed in the outcome. I know it could look better if I spent another hour on it and used more ornaments, but I didn't have the patience.
Would I Do It Again?: Absolutely not with the same frame. If I found a foam frame, maybe.
