I've had this glow in the dark mason jar pinned on my Pinterest page forever because all of the pictures of peoples' creations of this project are really cool and vibrant and I thought it was a cool idea. I never thought about this project for too long though, because I always thought it was too cool to be true, the pictures look fake and edited so I didn't think this pin was real or worked. Well I decided it would be perfect for this blog! So I researched a few pins and found out that I needed glow in the dark paint, a mason jar, and paint brushes (make sure they are long so they can reach the bottom of the jar). For the glow in the dark paint I couldn't find which kind of paint so I used acrylic. I ran over to Hobby Lobby and got all my supplies and they were all very easy to find. The first step, and pretty much only step, is to take the paint and dot from the bottom of the jar up. You want to be careful not to smudge the paint above where you are dotting when inserting the paint brush with different color paints. And it's that easy! I left my jar outside for an hour to dry and it dried super quickly. I waited until the sun went down and used the flashlight on my phone to charge the paint, and went into a dark room. I was really nervous because this was the real test, I never tested this pin because I thought there was no way that it really glowed in the dark. Well let me be the first to tell you that this pin really works! My camera could not pick up the glow, and the picture did not do the jar justice. It is so much more vibrant in person, but definitely not as vibrant as the pictures on the pins but I think they might have used a black light to exaggerate the colors. I am very happy and surprised with how this pin turned out! If I were to do this again though I would try to make the dots smaller and closer together rather than bigger and further apart, I think it would be a cooler effect!
RATINGS:
Messiness: I will give this a 4/10 because the paint was a bit messy it got on my hands and my pants, but it was really easy to wash off with water and soap.
Simplicity: 7/10 because it was pretty simple, there was virtually only one step to the craft, and only 3 materials needed. It also took like no time!
Fun: 7/10 I had fun doing this! The dotting was a little bit repetitive but like I said it really didn't take long at all.
Overall: 9/10 I really enjoyed this craft! It didn't take very long, it was really easy, and I really like the outcome!
Would I Do It Again?: Yes! I am actually planning on doing it again and painting the whole jar with the paint rather than dots!
