This weeks post is going to be a little different. I want to address the situation of the mug in the last post. In the last blog I talked about being nervous for when I washed the mug for the first time, and I want to talk about what happened. I want these posts to be as helpful as possible and in order to do that I want to tell you all the pro and cons to all of the projects. The mugs that I made in the last post were really great and I really enjoyed them, but there were some problems. After my first use, I had to clean the mug like one would after using any eating utensil. I started to put the mug under the faucet and feared for the outcome. I put soap onto my sponge and started to scrub the surface of the mug. I watched as the sponge swept over the dots making them disappear. I was left with a mug with little to no sharpie left on it. You can not see any design on it whats so ever. The further away from the "L" that I got the better the sharpie stayed as you can see in the pictures. I'm thinking about trying this again with another approach next time. I've seen many suggestions on Pinterest on how to make the sharpie last longer. They say to bake the mugs twice, let the sharpie dry for 24 hours before baking it, use paint sharpies or paint markers/ paint pens, use cheaper mugs, and many more. I probably will retry this post another time and use some of the suggestions and see if I can get better results.
