So this week I made DIY mugs. I had been wanting to try these out for a while, so I did. All you need is a mug, a sharpie or two, and sticker letters. I had all the necessary things, except a plain mug, so I went to the store and got two mugs. I had read on the pin a lot of suggested places to get plain mugs from, so that was not at all hard to find. An optional step before you do anything to the mug is to use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface, and get off all of the oil, grease, or dirt on it. The reason for this is so it will be easier for the sharpie to bake into the mug and stay on the mug. I then stuck on my letter of choice: which was "L." I then proceeded to make dots all around the letter making sure to outline the letter in dots, to ensure that it looks like the letter "L." as I got toward the outside of the mugs I started dotting fewer and fewer because that was the design I was going for. I then baked the mug in the oven at 350* F for 30 minutes. I then took it out and waited for it to cool. When I had taken my mug out, I noticed, that the blue and green sharpie was not as vibrant. The colors on my mug dulled down while in the oven. My cousin also made a mug, as you can see in the last picture, and her colors didn't change through the baking process. It is possible that lighter/darker colors have different effects in the oven. I also wanted to see how well the sharpie would stay if it was washed, so I ran it under water and rubbed at the sharpie with my finger and it stayed on perfectly. I only worry with use and wear and tear, if the sharpie will fade away with time.
RATINGS:
Messiness: I would rate this a 2/10, because it wasn't messy at all, the only part that can get messy is if you get sharpie on yourself.
Simplicity: 8/10 It was pretty easy. I had to take instructions from multiple different pins to get the result I wanted, but once I knew all of the steps it was really easy.
Fun: 5/10 It was almost hypnotizing sitting and drawing dot, after dot, after dot. I would say it wasn't super fun, almost tedious, but the result was definitely worth it!
Overall: 9/10 I really enjoyed the outcome and will be using the mug all the time.
Would I Do It Again?: Yeah, I think I would!
