This week I wanted to make a DIY craft that you could do in a preschool or with a child. I independently study in a preschool so I want to include DIY's that you can do with kids. This DIY is an ocean in a bottle. I think that it would be a good way to teach children about the ocean and have them stay engaged. So what you are going to need for this is: a 2 liter bottle, blue food coloring, water, and vegetable oil.
Let's get started. So first you want to fill up 1/3 of your bottle with water. The second thing you want to do it add blue food coloring to the water in the bottle and mix it up. Also lets just take a second to appreciate how cool food coloring looks when it drops into water. Okay, good. Then you want to add the vegetable oil into the bottle. Now you have an ocean in a bottle. This is a super simple DIY with only three ingredients.
This project was really easy and for the most part not very messy. I think that this would be a fun, cute, exciting DIY to make with a little one. I think kids would get really into the craft and would make it fun to learn about the ocean. I would definitely recommend this craft. Also it just looks pretty which is also a plus.
RATINGS:
Messiness: 2/10 I would like you to keep in mind that I am a 17 year old and if you are doing this with a child it will definitely be messier. I would suggest wearing clothes that you don't care about because there is food coloring involved that can stain your clothes and hands.
Simplicity: 8/10 This was extremely easy with only three ingredients. There were no tricks, just put everything together. You really can't go wrong.
Fun: 4/10 It was cool to look at after it was done. Again I'm 17 years old so this wasn't super entertaining for me, but if you have a little kid to do it with I think they would have a bunch of fun.
Overall: 7/10 It's not difficult at all and if you want to teach someone about the ocean I think this would be an effective way of making it fun.
Would I do it again: Maybe. If I teach about the ocean in the future I will make sure I look back on this project.
